Defame someone on Facebook is a serious offense, equivalent to libel. To say this was the Fifth Criminal Division of the Supreme Court, as part of a process born of a complaint by Francesco Rocca, President of the Italian Red Cross, and at the time also Commissioner of the Cri.
In 2010 a component on leave of CRI had insulted Rocca through its Facebook page. Now the Supreme Court has ruled that such conduct constitutes an aggravated defamation under Article 595, paragraph three of the Criminal Code.
