In a shocking accusation, French diplomats told Foreign Policy that they believe the Obama administration plans to replace Saudi Arabia with Iran as the central U.S. ally in the Middle East. (VIDEO: Reporter Grills State Department: Is United States Now A ‘Functional Ally Of Iran?’)
“Numerous French diplomats suspect that the United States… is on the verge of profoundly reshaping of [sic] its traditional alliance system in the Middle East,” reporters Joseph Bahout and Benjamin Haddad write, ”moving [to] a system where Iran replaces Saudi Arabia as the central pillar of regional stability.”
The nuclear talks, French diplomats suspect, are just one part of a strategic rapprochement with Iran, the piece continues. “Washington has practically sub-contracted the war against the Islamic State’s forces in Iraq to Iranian special forces and Tehran’s Iraqi militia proxies. The French view this as a potentially counter-productive move, one more part of Washington’s turn away from its Sunni allies and toward Tehran.”

LAUSANNE, Switzerland—Efforts by the Obama administration to stem criticism of its diplomacy with Iran have included threats to nations involved in the talks, including U.S. allies, according to Western sources familiar with White House efforts to quell fears it will permit Iran to retain aspects of its nuclear weapons program.
A series of conversations between top American and French officials, including between President Obama and French President Francois Hollande, have seen Americans engage in behavior described as bullying by sources who spoke to the Washington Free Beacon.
(.....)
Western policy analysts who spoke to the Free Beacon, including some with close ties to the French political establishment, were dismayed over what they saw as the White House’s willingness to sacrifice its relationship with Paris as talks with Iran reach their final stages....
(....)
“The meeting between the French ambassador in Washington and the president’s envoy to Paris—not a diplomat but a big fundraiser for his campaigns—comes amid these very harsh words that were spoken privately about the ambassador’s recent comments on the seeming American desperation for a deal, and the tough words that President Obama had for President Hollande in their phone call.” ....".

"....... The misleading image that the West in general and the EU in particular is a cluster of nations that are all Christian has been deliberately fed to the conservative base by Islamists and their cronies. That campaign prompted Erdoğan to say time and again that Turkey no longer cares about the EU. That is hardly surprising. In a videotaped address dated March 1990 and available on YouTube, Erdoğan was heard slamming the EU and describing it as a “community of Christian Catholic countries.”..........."

MOSCOW (AP) — Chechnya's leader on Wednesday told his security forces to open fire on Russian federal troops if they operate in the region without his approval.

Ramzan Kadyrov's comments late Wednesday send a worrying sign about a potential rift between him and the federal security services.

Following the killing of a man in the Chechen capital this week by security forces from a neighboring region, Kadyrov told his forces they can open fire on troops from other regions if they operate without his approval.

"I would like to officially state: Open fire if someone from Moscow or Stavropol, it doesn't matter, appears on your turf without your knowledge," he said in an address to his forces. "We have to be reckoned with."

A wanted man was killed in Grozny on Sunday in a special operation of federal forces stationed in Chechnya as well as law enforcement officials from Stavropol, Russian media reported.

In exchange for the relative calm he has installed in Chechnya after two separatist wars, Kadyrov has been allowed to maintain his own security force. Moscow has largely ignored the rampant abuses, including torture and extrajudicial killings.

Kadyrov's private army came under the spotlight last month when a Chechen police officer was arrested as one of the main suspects in the Feb. 27 murder of Russian opposition leader Boris Nemtsov.

    1. It could be a diversion, Kadirov must now take the blame for Nemtsov's death and make Putin to appear with clean hands.
Without Putin 's support he is practically dead.

Putin, Austria name 1915 killings ‘genocide’

ussian President Vladimir Putin has joined the list of world leaders and governments who have named the killing of Armenians at the hands of the Ottoman Empire “genocide,” just one day after the Austrian parliament issued a similar declaration, prompting Turkey to recall its ambassador.

“April 24, 1915, is a mournful date, related to one of the most horrendous and dramatic events in human history, the genocide of the Armenian people,” Putin said in a letter to the World Without Genocide commemorative event, the text of which was also posted on the Kremlin website.

(Reuters) - A U.S. drone strike in January targeting an al Qaeda compound in Pakistan near the Afghan border inadvertently killed an American and an Italian who had been held hostage for years by the group, U.S. officials said on Thursday.

President Barack Obama apologized and said he took "full responsibility" for all counterterrorism operations, including this one.

The deaths were a setback for a longrunning U.S. drone strike program that has targeted Islamist militants in Pakistan, Afghanistan and elsewhere, often prompting criticism inside those countries as well as from civil liberties groups in the United States.

Killed in the January operation were aid workers Warren Weinstein, an American held by al Qaeda since 2011, and Giovanni Lo Porto, an Italian who went missing in Pakistan in 2012, as well as Ahmed Farouq, an American who was an al Qaeda leader, the White House said
