PROJECT 2025 & Catholicism

  1. 30 ago 2024This was the central project of the Catholic New Right and New Christian Right in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and it is the central aim of Project 2025. In the forward to the most recent Mandate for Leadership, Heritage president Kevin D. Roberts neatly summarizes the "four broad fronts that will decide America's future."

"led by a behind-the-scenes cadre of devout Catholics"

The Catholic New Right and Conservative Coalition Building

As I explain in The Radical Mind: The Origins of Right-Wing Catholic and Protestant Coalition Building (University Press of Kansas, 2024), the New Right was an ostensibly secular movement aimed at promoting conservative political actors and advancing conservatism as a governing political ideology that was led by a behind-the-scenes cadre of devout Catholics who were conservative in both their politics and faith and deeply committed to so-called social issues. These Catholic New Right (CNR) activists were instrumental in shaping not just the political ideology and strategy of the New Right in the early 1970s, but also the New Christian Right later in the decade. They also helped transform the institutional landscape of right-wing politics in the United States.

İstanbul, Türkiye

Seventeen centuries ago, pastors from every corner of the world gathered in the city of Nicea (Iznik, Türkiye) for the First Council of Nicea. These early leaders united to address denials concerning the divinity of Jesus Christ.

Out of a scriptural conviction that Jesus is God, this council penned the Nicene Creed, which stands as the most widely confessed and majestic expression of the Christian faith, underpinning the essence of the gospel we confess.

The aim of this conference is to commemorate the heritage of the church, to remind us of the truth proclaimed through the ages, and to exhort us to proclaim and protect the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

A look at the Council of Nicaea's impact on the Church

As Pope Leo XIV visits the site of the Council of Nicaea, held in 325, we recall the importance of the first Ecumenical Council's proclamation of the Church’s faith in the divinity of Jesus Christ, which also established the date for Easter for all Christians.

By Christopher Wells - Istanbul

The first Ecumenical Council in the history of the Church took place in 325, in an era of epochal change. After some two hundred fifty years of persecution, the decision of the Emperor Constantine to legalize Christianity allowed Christians to worship in freedom throughout the Roman Empire.
